When the Government pledged to back “the builders, not the blockers”, who else did it mean but Britain’s property developers, investors and contractors?

At Bloom we’re proud to count ourselves among the builders. On the construction front line, we’re seeing commercial schemes holding up well. But a raft of new data from the resi sector suggests Britain isn’t building nearly enough homes.

Our director Gareth Belsham MRICS has told the Daily Mail that Labour’s plan to get 1.5m new homes built by 2029 “is likely to join Whitehall’s growing list of Quixotic housebuilding targets.”

The housebuilding problem has been brewing for years and can’t be blamed on one Government alone.

And as some of the construction industry leaders quoted alongside Gareth in this piece argue, it turns out the blockers aren’t NIMBYs but the thicket of “regulatory, economic and market factors” we face.
